Chronicle wins awards from Oklahoma SPJ

(from Bobby)

Tamie, Erik, Jeanie and I attended the annual awards banquet of the Oklahoma professional chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists last night. We were fortunate to win seven awards in competition against the state's largest newspapers.

The biggest chuckle came this morning when I read the entire list of winners and realized the Chronicle had won honorable mention for Best Newspaper. The state's largest newspaper and my former employer, The Oklahoman, was not among the winners in that category. I'm not claiming our little monthly Christian paper can compete against The Oklahoman on a daily basis, but for one night, we apparently did.

Unfortunately, Tamie and I left before that award was presented at the end. We wanted to get back to our "home alone" kids and figured we had no chance in that category anyway. Next year, we'll expect to win "first place." Ha.

You know, no one in Dallas has seen Elizabeth Albanese since Katiegate erupted. You may want to make sure she's not running the SPJ awards. Otherwise, you most certainly would have won best newspaper. :-)

That is really great news. I am glad when we can see that we are making a difference in the world. Keep up the good work!
